Science

Investigate, explore, analyze, experiment . . . any way you put it, its FUN!

Chemistry

What makes soda bubble? What makes slime slimy? Chemistry that’s what! This class explores the fascinating world of the elements and how they work together to make what we see, feel, taste and smell around us everyday. Children will explore the states of matter, the nature of chemical and molecular bonds and how to conduct experiments that may fascinate (or irritate) their parents. This class will also be great for anyone who plays the Adventures of the Elements game, because we will be incorporating the game into the class.

Whodunit?

Crime Scene Investigators use techniques such as observation, logic, biology, and chemistry to determine the culprit of a crime. Now it is your turn to use various scientific techniques to gather clues and solve a mystery!

Botany

Plants produce oxygen, they control erosion, they provide food and so much more, but what do you really know about them. Over the five weeks that this class will meet, children will raise their own plant, recording its growth each week. At the same time, they will learn what makes a plant a plant and not a beetle or an elephant. This class combines biology and chemistry in an exploration of plants on a micro and macroscopic level.

Ancient Science

Children explore the science of the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians through a variety of hands-on activities. See how technology from the past contributes to what we have today.

Geology of Massachusetts

Calling all Rock Hounds! Learn about the various types of rocks found in Massachusetts and how they got here(Some traveled by ice!).  Test for hardness, explore how rocks are formed, learn how to identify them and take home a rock collection of your own.

Wizard Science

This program combines magic and science to let children explore the fascinating worlds of chemistry, physics and biology.  Children can dress as their favorite wizard for this class and learn how to amaze their friends and family with magic and science. A fun hands-on class, but watch out kids, you might just learn something at the same time!

Owl Pellets

Students will learn about the predatory habits of owls as they dissect their own owl pellet.  The pellets contain anything that the bird eats that is not digestable-fur, feathers, bones, and seeds.  Students will then compare the bones found with bones in our faunal collection to determine what the animals were.

Paleontology

No, archaeologist do not dig dinosaurs, but they still think they are cool! Learn about the dinosaurs that have been found in New England-what they ate, where they lived, family dynamics and how we know this. Measure distance between footprints to determine size, experiment with why some dinos swallowed stones, and more!

Slime Science

Children learn about polymers, physics and chemistry while getting their hands dirty in this sticky, slimy science class. Did you know fiber laxative makes great slime, what about diapers?  Different slimes each time we meet with lots of science thrown in.
